Hypnotherapy in Pregnancy
The way you respond to the world around you is stored deep within your brain, and it is a collection of thoughts and experiences built up throughout your entire life. This is your subconscious mind, and it is like the hard drive on your computer, constantly processing and storing links and memories in case you should ever need them again.
Your subconscious is your built-in protector, warning you against things that have previously felt scary or upsetting. However sometimes we store things that are not helpful, and the protection is not valid. If you experience a horrible sickness bug, your subconscious will make a link between being sick and feeling worried or panic. Consequently, when you next feel nausea your subconscious will want to ‘protect’ you from being sick, triggering anxiety or dread.
Using hypnotherapy, we can access the deep-rooted links and memories to change the intensity and tone of the message. You feel in control of the thoughts and behaviours rather than feeling like you can’t control it. We do not change a memory, but we can change the emotion or link associated with the memory so that your subconscious no longer needs to protect you.
What does hypnotherapy in pregnancy feel like?
If you’ve ever found yourself drifting off mid-conversation or getting lost in a movie or a good book, then you have experienced a feeling like hypnosis. It is a comfortable feeling where you remain aware of what is going on around you, yet you are completely relaxed and at ease.
Contrary to popular myth, a hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything that you don’t want to do and will not ‘put you under’. You can stop the session at any time should you wish to.
Hypnosis is achieved through a deep state of relaxation, something that you can then practice at home enabling you to be relaxed and stress free.
I have been practising hypnotherapy since 2011 and specialise in Women’s health, fertility, pregnancy and pre and postnatal wellbeing.
